MEDITECH
Imaging and Therapeutic Services
product brief

MEDITECH's Imaging and Therapeutic Services (ITS) application simplifies and expedites the entire exam process, from patient registration to the final results. All imaging and ancillary departments such as cardiology, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy may customize access and functionality according to their needs. The application also serves as a migration product, bridging the MAGIC and Client/Server platforms.

Highlights:
   • Authorized users can schedule appointments for patients directly from their departments
   • Patients can be registered on-line from any imaging or ancillary department throughout the enterprise
   • Orders entered on-line from our Nursing Order Entry application automatically flow into the appropriate department
   • Patient information entered in the ITS application automatically updates information throughout the system
   • Authorized care providers have immediate access to view information through the Enterprise Medical Record anywhere across the integrated care delivery network.

Standard Features

Exam Order Entry
Exam orders may be entered directly into the system at the imaging and/or ancillary department. An order's status may be updated on-line in real time and viewed from patient care areas or from the Enterprise Medical Record, ensuring information is as current as possible. Exam order entry features include:
• A look-up feature which facilitates data entry by displaying lists of mnemonic abbreviations and other entry choices for any data defined in the dictionaries
• Customer-defined screens and questionnaires for all categories of exams
• Rules-based logic which warns users of potential procedure conflicts and duplication of therapies
• An audit trail which tracks all entries and edits to patient records
• Medical Necessity checking
• Automatic viewing of lab results upon order entry using lab view groups
• Schematic diagrams with marking/annotation abilities
• Hospital-defined output generation and charge status by procedure
• Ability to order recurring orders
• Ability to enter orders from within the ITS application itself or from the Nursing Order Entry and Physician Order Management applications.

Transcription Capabilities
Word processing features provided through Microsoft WordŽ and/or MEDITECH's Rich Text Format enable transcriptionists to enter reports dictated by physicians on-line. Microsoft WordŽ (installed on the client computer) is accessible to any licensed user. In order to minimize typing, canned text of common phrases, paragraphs, and terms may be designated for easy insertion. Transcription features include:
• Ability to preview reports on-screen or print reports using option buttons to change printing devices
• Downloading and e-mailing capabilities via third-party vendors
• Ability to print reports automatically and send them to physicians, insurance companies, and departments
• Direct faxing of reports and letters option
• Quick reporting to eliminate transcription of normal exams
• Quick text (a/k/a autotext) with user-defined triggers
• Remote capabilities.

Standard and Customized Reporting
Numerous standard reports are available, allowing managers and care providers to monitor departments, assist with operations, and maintain quality control. Reports include:
• Billing reports, such as Billing Lists, Patient Billing Activity, and Discrepancy List
• Order reports including cancelled, duplicate, overdue and incomplete procedures, daily log, an order's audit trail, and a history input log
• Statistical reports (i.e., workload and comparative statistics)
• Miscellaneous reports such as Final Day Sheet, No Show List, Inventory List, and Activity List
• An ad-hoc report capability with specific selection criteria
• Ability to capture and print department-specific worklists to assist with procedure assignment.

Tracking Capabilities
A patient monitoring feature allows patients to be tracked from the time they arrive at the department until they leave. Information tracked includes the patient's location in the department (waiting room, exam room, etc.), the amount of time the patient has been waiting, and the status of the procedure. The information is color-coded and can be updated according to customer-specified time periods. Additional capabilities for the Radiology department include:
• Radiation and isotope histories tracked by patient and by amount
• Creation of on-line teaching files which utilize a code finder for anatomical and pathological identification
• Outcome follow-up for mammography exams.

Any of the ancillary departments (including cardiology, physical therapy, or respiratory therapy) may customize access and functionality according to their needs. ITS allows orders to be entered on-line from within the department by any authorized user. Charging of the procedure can occur automatically, eliminating lost charges. Additionally, charges may be entered on-line manually, either by batch process or on an individual basis. MEDITECH's Rich Text Format word processor is incorporated within the application, allowing for quick and efficient result reporting.

Billing Capabilities
Charging can occur automatically when the therapist or care provider performs a procedure, eliminating lost charges that were never billed. Billing features include:
• Ability to capture timed charges
• Ability to batch charge multiple procedures
• Quick and easy routines for charging or crediting a bill that requires adjusting.

Schematics
Departments can utilize schematic diagrams specific to their needs. These schematics can be annotated on-line and associated with orders or reports, and stored as either .bmp or .jpg files. Schematic features include:
• Standard schematic diagrams are supplied by MEDITECH, but can be customized by the department
• Schematics can be viewed and annotated by any authorized user to visually indicate specific departmental information (i.e., range of motion, areas of interest)
• Schematics can be annotated with markings of different sizes, shapes, and colors
• Existing diagrams can be incorporated into the ITS application, eliminating the need to re-create these schematics
• Schematics can become part of the permanent patient record and can be viewed in the Enterprise Medical Record by any authorized user.

State-of-the-art features for use in the Radiology department include Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS) compatibility. This feature integrates patient information and images; e-mail capabilities for reports and physician letters; and bar access, which allows radiologists and physicians to view and sign reports electronically from their home and office computers.

Mammography
MEDITECH’s Mammography routines facilitate the processing and tracking of mammography examinations, greatly reducing the amount of clerical work required. Mammography features include:
• Schematic diagrams with marking/annotation abilities
• Customer-defined mammography history questionnaire
• Tracking of result codes (Category I - V), follow-up codes, and outcome codes
• Ability to utilize findings codes to create report texts
• Multiple statistics, including Accuracy
• Ability to attach patient and/or provider letters
• Direct link with Pathology findings.

Electronic Signature
MEDITECH's electronic signature capabilities allow the radiologist to quickly and easily sign reports on-line, either from a terminal within the network or from a remote location. Features include:
• Tracking monitor for physicians
• Ability to sign for others with proper authorization
• Ability to make edits before signing
• Remote capabilities.

Record Locator
Record locator routines efficiently track all records lent inside and outside of your health care organization. Additionally, reminder letters can be automatically generated for overdue records. Record locator routines include:
• Tracking of film location through sign in/sign out routines
• Tracking of reserved films which are already checked out
• Ability to automatically print reminder letters for overdue films
• Automatic tracking of films internally within department
• Ability to reserve films
• Ability to sign out multiple records to one location (i.e., operating room)
• Tracking of master jackets, sub-jackets, and inserts (multiple volumes)
• Ability to print labels.

Peer Review
Physicians have the ability to view and interpret previously diagnosed films. System routines offer users the flexibility to agree, disagree, and include comments on any previously signed reports. Special statistical reports show a breakdown of these findings.

PACS Capability
Text from MEDITECH's ITS application can be sent to any industry-standard PAC through an interface. The PACS will integrate the MEDITECH text with the corresponding image. Images also may be viewed in the Enterprise Medical Record and may be stored on-line with the corresponding report text.
