Standard Features
Used in combination with MEDITECH's Microbiology application, the Pharmacy application provides an Antibiotic/Microbiology report that points out any antibiotics currently prescribed to patients, which are resistant to identified organisms.
Linked to the Materials Management application, the Pharmacy application helps an organization track expenses and inventory more closely.
Patient
Demographic Data
The application gives users the flexibility to collect and update
a patient's demographic data on-line in order to maintain
accurate census records. Census reports accurately reflect a
patient's location and track patient movement with multiple
transfer and discharge reports. Functional routines include:
Edit and display of demographic data
Automatic transfer of patient's height, weight, allergies,
and other details from the Order Entry application
Ability to define multiple Patient Profile types.
Medication
Orders
The application allows for rapid entry of inpatient and
outpatient medications and I.V. admixtures. For each order, the
application automatically:
Allows users to define table orders or order by protocol
Displays the profile for the identified patient and active
medications
Updates a patient's active profile and refill lists
Checks for drug interactions, drug allergies, incompatible
I.V. ingredients, and duplicate medication orders
Discontinues medication orders by the clock and not by the
refill list
Allows for rules-based logic to be rechecked every time a
refill list is run
Prints inpatient, outpatient, I.V., pass med, and
Medication Administration Record labels
Calculates patient's charges, doses to dispense, and I.V.
drip rates with user-defined charge formulas
Streamlines order entry by allowing users to combine
medications, dosages, and directions into standard orders
Identifies stock medications at all stock locations
Identifies formulary medications by generic or trade name,
NDC number, or mnemonic
Checks newly-entered medication allergies against existing
medication orders
Documents Adverse Drug Reactions on the patient record
independently of allergies.
Inpatient
The application's inpatient ordering procedures automatically
adapt to traditional, unit dose, and mixed dispensing methods.
Satellite pharmacies, such as mobile or stationary carts, are
also accommodated. In addition to the features above, the
application automatically:
Schedules medication administration
Updates central, outpatient, floor stock, and satellite
pharmacy inventory levels
Allows order entry and final verification by nurses and
technicians.

Billing
Health care organizations may define charge formulas to control
percent mark-ups, minimum charges, and handling fees. To
eliminate lost revenues and speed the billing process, the
application also automatically captures medication charges and
improves interdepartmental charging.

streamline ordering and purchasing, as well as maintain an on-line
status of inventory items and a list of items nearing the reorder
point.
Purchase
Orders
Routines exist via the Materials Management and Pharmacy
applications to enter, edit, close, print, and receive purchase
orders. The application automatically adjusts for par levels of
inventory and all items below a pre-defined level for each
vendor, and maintains records of receipts and backorders.
