MEDITECH
Patient
Education
product brief
MEDITECH's Patient Education application teaches patients and the community about common medical diagnoses, treatments, medications, and care. Patient Education is comprised of two complementary products: Patient-Centered Education and General Diagnosis Education. The Patient-Centered Education product presents medical information specific to a patient's diagnosis, while the General Diagnosis Education product allows a health care organization to provide generic medical information to the community. The browser-based, self-guided application is accessible through an organization's intranet or Internet Web site.
Highlights:
Information is quickly accessible from any location with Internet
access, including physicians offices and the patients
home
Patient-Centered Education includes
information on over 30 of the most common diagnoses, while
passwords allow patients to access only those diagnoses which are
relevant to them
General Diagnosis Education serves as a
medical resource to an entire community, allowing local health
organizations to function as the main point-of-contact for
information online
User-friendly features include animated
movies, easy-to-read graphics, and closed-captioning for the
hearing impaired
Helps organizations meet JCAHO patient
education requirements.
Patient-Centered
Education
The Patient-Centered Education content provides patients with the
most necessary information to teach them about their medical
conditions and treatments. A care provider enters the patient's
condition(s) into a brief, on-line profile. The clinical profile
then compiles information specific to the patient's condition(s)
and treatment, including procedures and tests the patient will
undergo, medications to be administered, and any post-visit care.
This product ends the search for diagnosis-related information by
patients. When more informed about their conditions, patients are
less anxious, more involved in their treatments, and heal faster.

The browser-based format allows organizations to link their own
tailored guidelines and protocols, as well as favorite Web sites
to the Patient-Centered Education product.
JCAHO
Compliance
MEDITECH's Patient-Centered Education product helps organizations
meet Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization
(JCAHO) patient education requirements. Patients can continue to
access their profiled information and prescribed treatments from
home. For those patients without Internet access, information can
also be printed and presented to the patient prior to discharge
from the hospital or physicians office.
Security
Password protection ensures that patients have access only to the
information pertinent to their present conditions. A new clinical
profile is created and a new password is assigned each time the
patient visits the hospital.
General
Diagnosis Education
Our Patient Education application includes a General Diagnosis
Education component that helps hospitals provide general medical
information to the community at large, positioning the
organization as the local authority for health care. Medical
content educates those at risk for illnesses and provides an
essential resource to improve the well-being of the community.
The product condenses and organizes the most important diagnosis-related
content, eliminating the need to search through endless technical
pages of information.
