MEDITECH
Radiology
product brief
MEDITECH's Radiology application can be installed as a stand-alone system or in combination with other MEDITECH applications from the Health Care Information System (HCIS). The application streamlines exam processing from the moment an exam is ordered until the radiologist signs the final result report.
Highlights:
Automatic search and retrieval of patients' prior radiology
numbers, demographic data, and exam histories
Easy order entry
Reporting via an on-line text
editor
Exam status tracking from order
entry through report signing
Automatic charge capture
Management and statistical reports
Film locator feature
Patient tracking capability
On-line processing and electronic
signature of reports
Bar code reading capabilities
Picture Archiving Communications
Systems (PACS) compatibility.
The application helps a
health care organization by:
Ensuring accurate
identification of patients
Reducing transcription time and errors in patient reports
Eliminating lost patient charges
Monitoring the reasons for repeated or rejected films
Providing up-to-the-minute exam and patient tracking information
to authorized users throughout the care network
Associating more than one procedure with one report.
Standard Features
On-Line Patient
Identification and Registration
When combined with the Registration and Medical Records
applications, the Radiology application shares a common master
patient index file which eliminates conflicting records and
redundant entry of patient registration data.
On-line index enables quick access to radiology patient
data, replacing manual card filing systems.
Patients' records and radiology numbers can be recalled
through multiple search methods.
New radiology numbers may be manually or automatically
assigned when patients are not located in the search.
Inactive Patients feature allows users to enter previous
exam and assign ACR codes for inactive patients with out
generating charges or labels.
Combined with MEDITECH's Patient Care Inquiry (PCI), the
Radiology application allows users to view radiology reports and
associated impressions, addenda, and ACR codes. PCI is also the
primary vehicle for viewing archived radiology data using
MEDITECH's Data Archiving system.
Up-to-the-Minute Patient
Profiles
The application retains profile information on-line until an
organization-defined exam purge is activated. Patient profiles
include all radiology exams ordered for the current and previous
hospital visits. Users also have the ability to move exams from
Radiology Only accounts to a Registration account. Patient
monitoring features track arrival and departure times.
Exam Order Entry
The application, linked with our Order Entry application,
facilitates the entry of exam orders with:
Order entry via the Radiology or Order Entry applications
Formatted screens which automatically display patient
census information and previous exam data
Mnemonic abbreviations for entering full text descriptions
Automatic generation of requisitions, flashcards, and exam
labels with optional bar code capability
Print requisition feature for cancelled exams
Audit trails which track all entries and edits to patient
records
Ability to receive orders via Community-Wide Scheduling/Order
Entry
Medical Necessity checking
Hospital-defined output generation (requisitions, labels,
file room messages, history questionnaires)
Order sets
Customer-defined queries to capture hospital-specific data/response
information.
Automatic Charge Capture
The application eliminates lost or inaccurate charges by
automatically capturing an exam's charges when the exam reaches a
status (ordered, taken, draft, final) predetermined by the
organization.
Enter/Edit Radiology Only Patients routine allows for
no charge patients to be documented.
Exam billing code and charge as well as technical and
professional components exist.
Charges for miscellaneous supplies or items may also be
added to an exam.
Mammography
MEDITECH's mammography routines facilitate the processing and
tracking of mammography examinations, greatly reducing the amount
of clerical work required. Mammography features include:
Customer-defined mammography history questionnaire (can be
printed and/or documented on-line)
Tracking of result codes (Category I - V), follow-up
codes, and outcome codes
Multiple statistics, including Accuracy
Ability to attach patient and/or provider letters
Follow-up list.
Technologist Documentation
Technologists have access to routines that allow them to document
procedure-specific information about a patient. This information
can be reported on to determine statistics, workload, and patient
turnaround time. Features include:
Tracking up to three technologists for technologist/shift
statistics
Updated exam status (typically for charge capture)
Ability to capture location information for patient
tracking purposes
Ability to capture exam begin/completed/checked out times
for patient tracking
Additional comment entry
Entry and/or defaults of films used for film statistics
Entry of exam-related charges (contrast, needles,
catheters, gloves, bedpans, etc.)
Link to Materials Management
Ability to capture CPT modifiers.
On-Line Reporting
Word processing features enable transcriptionists to enter
comments dictated by radiologists on-line. The application helps
minimize typing by providing:
A screen editor, enabling users to enter a new report,
file it, or put it on hold while working with other reports
Ability for authorized users to view, edit, and
electronically sign reports on-line
Ability to define up to 12 ACR codes per exam
Automatic formatting and sorting of reports
Canned text of common phrases, paragraphs, and terms
Ability to print reports either individually or in batch
mode
Transcription interface for voice recognition
Ability to utilize findings codes (BI-RADS)
Remote capabilities.
Electronic Signature
MEDITECH's electronic signature capabilities allow the
radiologist to quickly and easily sign reports on-line, either
from a terminal within the network or from a remote location.
Features include:
Ability to sign for others with proper authorization
Ability to make edits before signing
Remote capabilities.
Film Locator
Film Locator routines track and manage patients' radiology films
located both inside and outside the organization. This allows the
department to:
Track films that an organization borrows from other
organizations
Reserve films which are already checked out
Generate a list of films checked out by physician or
department, flagging overdue films for the Overdue Films List
Generate user-defined reminder letters for recipients
holding films that are more than a selected number of days
overdue
Automatically print labels and outguides when users check
films out of the Radiology Department.
Peer Review
Radiologists have the ability to view and interpret previously
diagnosed films. System routines offer the flexibility for users
to include comments as well as to agree or disagree on any
previously signed reports. Special statistical reports show a
breakdown of these findings.
Management Lists
The application generates the following lists to assist care
providers and managers in the smooth, cost-efficient operation of
their departments. These on-demand management tools compile the
necessary data and statistics for proper review of the
organization.
Statistical Reports
The application provides a comprehensive set of statistical
reports, which assist department managers in the study and
analysis of information.
Bar Code Reader
The application includes bar code reading capabilities which:
Represent an alternative to keyboard data entry for film
tracking functions
Print the patient information on exam labels in bar code
representation
Identify the patient, film, and recipient by simply
scanning a bar code.
